Summer Camp Counselor (Seasonal)

Camp Counselor Job Description:

Looking for two high-energy candidates to lead a home-based summer camp program (eight children total) in the University Hills area of Austin. Ideal candidates are passionate about working with children and love developing and leading fun, creative activities, including drama and improv games; arts/crafts; and cooking/baking. Counselors are responsible for supervising campers, keeping them safe, and creating a supportive, fun, and positive camp experience.

About Us:

The campers’ parents are bilingual immigration lawyers working on cases across the U.S. and globally. Enriched Family is assisting with interviews for this position and is not the employer.

Camp Counselors’ Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate camp activities, including developing weekly camp themes and a variety of fun, daily activities.

  • Lead activities such as crafts, art, and drama/theater games, demonstrating a variety of techniques, and encouraging children to come up with their own ideas and unique creative expression.

  • Collaborate with co-counselor to create a safe, fun, positive, and imaginative camp experience.

  • Support and facilitate the development of a play that the children will perform at the end of the summer, including memorizing lines, and creating costumes, props, and any “set” pieces.

  • Set-up the camp space for activities daily and clean-up the camp space at the end of the day.

  • Organize team games such as soccer, tag, basketball, Simon says, et cetera, explaining the rules and acting as referee throughout.

  • Lifeguard duties whenever children are swimming (children have various levels of swimming ability).

  • Guide the children in daily transitions from activity to activity, following the camp schedule.

  • Explain and implement camp rules and provide emotional support to campers; help children in problem-solving and working through any difficulties in a kind and respectful manner.

  • Communicate with parents and provide updates as needed.

  • Supervise children swimming, baking, and engaging in sports and free-play activities safely.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated history of working with primary-aged children and developing engaging, age-appropriate activities. Ideally 1-2 years of experience.

  • Experience with and interest in improv, drama, arts/crafts, and cooking/baking.

  • Health and safety knowledge to keep campers safe.

  • Excellent communication skills to explain camp activities and set ground rules; leadership skills to guide and motivate campers; and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with campers, parents, and co-counselor.

  • Proof of COVID vaccination and booster.

Not required, but bonus if applicants are:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English); interested in immigration issues.

  • Lifeguard certified (If you are not certified, the camp can potentially pay for your certification).

Benefits:

Up to $20/hour, depending on experience. Seasonal position for the summer months (end of May to mid- August 2022; Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday), with the potential for employment beyond the summer available for the right candidate.
