Winter break is LONG. And 2+ weeks of unstructured time with kids can get a little crazy. For many parents, in order to balance work and family responsibilities (in addition to sanity), this means filling in the break with some fun camp options. As your extra set of hands, I have compiled a list of camps offering sessions during the winter break. In general, winter break camps tend to be a bit harder to find than summer break camps, especially for little ones, and often do not cover the full school break. I have focused on including camps in different areas in or near Austin (camps are organized by geographic location), with a variety of price points, a few options for littles, and camps that provide a range of coverage - from workshops to week-long camps. I’ve also included co-working spaces with childcare and drop-in care options. Here’s to Happy Campers one and all!

ATX Kids Club School Holiday Adventures
Details: Campers learn so much about the Central Texas region. Children may travel around Austin using CapMetro exploring their city or exploring beyond the city limits riding in the ATX Kids Club 8- or 15-passenger van to locations in San Antonio, Fredericksburg, Johnson City, Waco, and more. Your child will love spending their school holiday on ATX Kids Club adventures! Ages 4-15.

Cordovan Art School Winter Break Art Camps - Register in NW Austin - Mesa Dr. | Round Rock | Cedar Park | Georgetown
Details: Dec 23, Jan 2-3, and 6-7 (5 day art camp). You can choose between 5, 4, 2, or 1 day camps, with the option of enrolling in half or full days. There is a wide variety of camp themes. Details: The day camps provide fun, engaging, arts-based activities for students on days when school is not in session. Activities are led by Creative Action’s Professional Teaching Artists – the same creative experts who teach at Creative Action after school sites and in their school-based programs. All day camps include creativity classes, snack breaks, games, and outdoor play time.

Details: Where will your kids go when they're out of school this Winter? Magic Camp is the place to be! As always, the curriculum will include Magic, Puppets, and Juggling! They will also have special magical performances, as well as top quality staff. Ages: 5-12 (campers are grouped by age and experience).

Day Camp: Coding with Scratch (ages 7-12): This day camp is for beginner to intermediate level coders. Instructors will provide activities in computer programming, video game creation, and storytelling using Scratch, a visual block-based programming language. Available Dates: Dec. 20, 23, 26, 27, 30 & Jan. 2, 3, 6. Cost: $50/day.
Day Camp: Keyboarding (ages 7+): Learn touch typing skills through the use of classroom instruction and online tools and games with a focus on finger placement, posture, and accuracy. Available Date: December 23. Cost: $50.
Day Camp: Video Game Design with Unity (ages 8-12): Learn how to create games in Unity, one of the most powerful 2D and 3D game creation platforms. Campers will become familiar with the Unity interface and learn about game layout and mechanics as they build a couple of mini games. Available Dates: December 27 & January 3. Cost: $50/day.
Day Camp: Video Game Design with Kodu (ages 8-12): Learn computer programming concepts while being introduced to video game design. Campers will create their own game using Kodu Game Lab, a visual programming language developed for designing and creating games. Games created will be sent home at the end of the day and will be able to be played on any computer that runs Windows. Available Date: December 26. Cost: $50.
Day Camp: Coding with Scratch & Python (ages 11+): This day camp is for beginner to intermediate level coders. Instructors will provide activities in Scratch, a visual block-based programming language, and then transfer over to a hand-coded programming language – Python. Prerequisites: none, but should be familiar with the keys on the keyboard. This camp is designed for ages 11-15. Available Date: January 6. Cost: $50.
Day Camp: Video Game Development (ages 11-14): Create a 2D video game using the Unity game engine and the C# programming language. Campers will learn about game development while becoming familiar with in the Unity interface and being introduced to writing code. The completed project will be sent home at the end of the day. This day camp is for beginner to intermediate level coders. Available Date: December 30. Cost: $75.
Day Camp: Minecraft Mods (ages 7+): Make your very own mod in Minecraft by drawing your items and blocks, creating crafting recipes and adding them all to the game using a custom-built platform. No prior programming experience is required for this camp. This camp is designed for ages 7 and older that have an active Minecraft account and have experience playing Minecraft Java Edition on a Mac or PC. Each camper will take his/her completed mod home, along with instructions on how to install it. Available Dates: December 20 & January 2. Cost: $50/day.

My Coding Place Winter Blast Camps
Details: Two camp options - Games Camp or Mobile App Development.
Winter Blast Camp (Games): For ages 7-10, join in during a 4-day winter camp to build fun games in Scratch, a language and platform developed at MIT. Kids will learn to use conditionals, loops, variables, and other coding constructs. No experience necessary.

Details: YMCA Holiday Camps offer care with trained Youth Development Leaders, who will guide your child through a fun and engaging array of themed crafts, organized games, field trips, and other enriching activities! All activities are based on the Y's character development values and the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets. Your camper will make new friends, gain confidence, and expand their horizons! Theme: Amazing Race Winter Edition. From team building to minute-to-win-it, your camper will race around the world’s mountain ranges engaging in different challenges facilitated by amazing staff who will be the tour guides throughout the adventure! Available dates: Open every day of the week, except Sundays (closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day)
Ages: 18 months to 12 years old
Hours: Mon.-Thurs. (7:30am-10pm); Fridays (7:30am-12:30am); Saturdays (9am-12:30am)
Cost: $9/hour (reduced rate special offered when purchasing blocks of hours). Rate is per child, but time may be shared within a family. There is a one-time registration fee of $30 per family. Registration required for first time visit.

Poppy: Child Development, Co-Working, and Celebration Services
Details: Poppy is a community to work, recharge, and mingle with other parents sharing the same struggles and celebrations. Poppy has an “open play space” where your child can play with your supervision while you work. Poppy also has a separate and secure supervised child development area designed to engage a sensory rich atmosphere. This section allows for appropriate space based on age range, whether that be individual or group settings. This space has engaging activities and approaches for your child to learn. Your child's time spent at Poppy will be enriched with a multi-sensory approach to a curriculum-based education. Parents at Poppy can have four hours (up to twelve hours weekly) of uninterrupted time to focus on personal and/or professional growth. The co-working space includes a meeting office, phone booths, and a small cafe/kitchen with free coffee, local snacks, and healthy alternatives. The unique design allows for this area to also function as a celebration space for birthday parties, baby showers, parents night out, and other big moments.
